Salesify helps tech clients identify, meet with prospects

THE BUSINESS: Salesify Inc. helps technology companies identify, profile  and connect with the right people targeted as sales and marketing  prospects. The company’s services include building customized B2B  prospect databases, setting appointments and integrating lead generation  programs. Salesify says it does original research, extracting  information not available elsewhere.

CUSTOMERS: Salesify has more than 200 customers globally, although the  vast majority are based in the U.S. Its leaders say they serve two of  the top five leading business intelligence vendors; two of the top three  security companies; two of the top five consulting services companies;  one of the top three network hardware companies and one of the top three  telecom companies. CEO Gurdeep Chimni said that company gets 37 percent  of its growth coming from referrals by existing clients.

SHORT-TERM GOAL: Chimni said the company wants to continue to develop  and invest in its infrastructure, growing the business at 15 percent  quarter by quarter.

LONG-TERM GOAL: Chimni said he wants  Salesify to become the de-facto standard as the “go-to” sales and  marketing partner for the technology sector.

BIGGEST  COMPETITORS: Salesify leaders say they don’t have much direct  competition because the market is fragmented, with very small companies  that are limited in scope. At the same time, very large organizations  dilute their data’s value by not specializing, Chimni said.

HOW  THE BUSINESS WILL CHANGE IN FIVE YEARS: Chimni said outsourced sales is  expanding because costs are forcing the larger organizations to limit  customer interaction and focus on the top 20 to 50 accounts that  generate 80 percent of their revenue, meaning other accounts will be  neglected unless they are outsourced.

TOUGHEST  BUSINESS DECISION: Chimni said the decision to bootstrap and not bring  in outside investors was the most difficult, especially in light of the  expense of investing in global infrastructure and facilities.

ONE  THING THAT MIGHT SURPRISE PEOPLE ABOUT THE CEO: Chimni said most people  assume that he is an engineer, but he is not really a techie. He would  rather spend his free time taking his kids fishing.
